First available doctor appointment for registered patients
You may have noticed a booking option titled “First Available Doctor for Registered Patients” on our appointment portal. As we are a group practice, all physicians within our clinic provide care to all registered patients.
This option allows you to be seen by another physician in the clinic if your family doctor is unavailable or has a longer wait time. It helps prevent delays in your medical care and ensures continuity of care.
Does my doctor mind if I see the first available doctor for my health issue?
We encourage our patients to book with the first available doctor if their family physician has a long waiting list or is unavailable. This ensures that your family doctor has access to all treatment notes and investigation results from any other physician within our clinic, maintaining continuity of care and preventing delays in your medical management.
What services are billed to me directly?
A full list of uninsured services can be found on our Service Fees page. All physicians in this clinic follow a standardized fee schedule, which is closely aligned with the rates recommended by Doctors of BC.
Use of artificial intelligence during consultations.
The physicians and nurse practitioners at Park Medical Clinic use secure and approved artificial intelligence (AI) technology to assist with documenting and recording consultations. These tools are carefully vetted and comply with the standards set by the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons. The use of AI allows our clinicians to focus more on patient care while ensuring accurate and timely documentation. Patient privacy and confidentiality remain fully protected in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
No Show charges
We understand that patients may occasionally miss or forget their appointments. To ensure fairness and efficient use of our clinic’s time and resources, we have implemented the following No-Show Policy:
If a patient has three (3) no-shows within a two-year period, they will be required to pay a no-show penalty fee for all the 3 no show appointments after their 3rd no show , before being able to book any further appointments.
How does the flu vaccine work?
The flu vaccine helps your body build protection by triggering the production of antibodies. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for these antibodies to develop, and they provide defense against the influenza viruses included in the vaccine.
Which flu strains does this year’s vaccine cover?
Each year, flu vaccines are formulated to protect against the strains of influenza that experts expect to circulate most widely during the season.
Who is recommended to get the flu vaccine?
According to Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization, the flu vaccine is recommended for everyone aged six months and older, with very few exceptions.
What if I arrive late for my appointment?
If you arrive late, we will do our best to accommodate you. However, if the doctor’s schedule does not permit it, your appointment may need to be rescheduled. In this case, a $50 cancellation fee may apply.
Patients with Multiple Health Concerns
We understand that many patients wish to discuss several health issues during one visit. However, addressing too many concerns at once can cause delays for others later in the day. To ensure fairness and quality care, our doctors can cover a maximum of two concerns per appointment. If you have additional issues to discuss, we will be happy to book a follow-up visit.
Annual Check-Ups
Please note that annual check-ups are not covered by MSP unless there is a clear medical need. Our clinic follows the fee guide recommended by Doctors of BC for uninsured services. You can find full details on our Service Fees page.
While annual visits can provide valuable preventive care, MSP does not classify them as an insured service. Until this changes, physicians are required to bill privately for these appointments. A receipt will be provided, which you may submit to your extended health insurance provider for possible reimbursement.
“But my last doctor did them for free…”
In some cases, physicians may have billed MSP for these visits. However, this practice is not permitted. Doctors who do so risk audit penalties of several thousand dollars.
For more information, please see MSP’s official publications:
MSP Benefits or call 604-660-2421.
“Routine or periodic complete physical examination (check-up) is not a benefit under MSP. This includes any associated diagnostic or laboratory procedures unless significant pathology is found. The physician should advise the laboratory of the patient’s responsibility for payment.” – MSP Schedule of Fees (2009)
Following Up on Results
To discuss the results of your investigations, please book a follow-up appointment with your family doctor. Please note that our front desk staff are not authorized to discuss test results with patients.
